Cloud SQL supports in-place upgrades and downgrades to your instance's infrastructure. You can change all of the following in place: The edition that your Cloud SQL instance uses. The machine type. The storage type. The database version. Making in-place changes is the most direct and least error-prone way to reconfigure an instance.
