On-demand indexes in BYOC
UpdateyesterdayUnverifiedAdded Oct 16, 2026
Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) now supports on-demand indexes in addition to dedicated read nodes indexes. All on-demand indexes and their namespaces in a BYOC environment share one pool of nodes. When you create an index, you choose your BYOC environment and then on-demand or dedicated read nodes as the capacity mode.

Every Pinecone Database releaseCross-region transfer fee for restores
Restoring a backup into a different region now incurs a cross-region transfer fee on top of the standard restore price. The fee is charged per GB and depends on the cloud provider and the backup's region. Restoring into the same region as the backup is billed as before. The fee appears on your invoice as Serverless Cross-Region Transfer.
End of life: Pinecone Local
Pinecone Local, the in-memory Docker emulator for local development and testing, has reached end of life and is no longer available. Its documentation has been removed. To develop and test your applications, use a separate project in your Pinecone account.
Namespace aliases
A namespace alias is a stable, repointable name that points at a namespace. Your application reads through the alias, and you can swap the data it reads by atomically repointing the alias to a different namespace in the same index, with no redeploy. Manage aliases through the REST API on version 2026-07 or later.
Pod-to-serverless migration supports up to 500 million records
Migrating a pod-based index to serverless now supports indexes with up to 500 million records, up from 50 million. If you need to migrate a larger index, contact Support before you start.
Higher namespace limit on the Enterprise plan
The Enterprise limit for namespaces per serverless index is now 1,000,000. Pinecone can accommodate more for specific use cases. Contact Support to request a higher limit.
General availability: Full-text search and the Documents API
Full-text search is now generally available on API version 2026-07, built on the new Documents API. Create schema-based document indexes that combine full-text (BM25), dense-vector, and sparse-vector ranking fields in a single index. Query them with BM25 token matching, Lucene query syntax, or vector similarity, narrowed by metadata and text-match filters.
Egress metering and monthly egress allowances
Pinecone now meters egress, the data returned to you on reads. Each plan includes a monthly egress allowance: 1 GB on Starter, 10 GB on Builder, and 100 GB on Standard and Enterprise. Egress is metered on reads that return record data, such as query, fetch, list, and search. Writes, index statistics, and index management requests aren't metered.
BYOC stores cluster metadata in FoundationDB
BYOC deployments run FoundationDB inside your Kubernetes cluster to store cluster metadata, with no managed database to operate.
